A little bit of History :
In the middle of the 12th century, the Knights Templar built a fortified convent and church here, against the town wall. When the convent was sold as national property during the Revolution, plans were made to extend the street towards the Cours de l'Intendance.
On a plan dated Prairial an XIII, it was given the name of Vergniaud, but shortly afterwards (1804), it was given the full name of rue du Temple. The Templar chapel, known from drawings and described by M. de Marquessac, was destroyed at the end of the 19th century.
